Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This page explains what personal data is processed when you visit twilightmargin.de, why, and what rights you have. Twilight Margin is a non-commercial personal site for photography, writing and creative projects. There are no ads, no affiliate links and nothing for sale.

Who is responsible

The person responsible for data processing on this site (controller under the GDPR) is Hanni Jakob, operator of Twilight Margin. You can reach me at twilightmargin@gmail.com for any privacy question or request.

Hosting

This site is hosted on WordPress.com, a service of Automattic Inc. (60 29th Street #343, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA); for users in the EU, Aut O’Mattic A8C Ireland Ltd. acts as the European contact. When you open a page, your browser automatically transmits technical data such as your IP address, date and time of access, the page requested, referrer, browser and operating system. This is necessary to deliver the site securely and to detect misuse. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in operating a secure website).

Automattic may process data in the USA. Transfers rely on the safeguards described in Automattic’s privacy policy.

Visitor statistics

The site uses Jetpack Stats (Automattic) to count visits and see which posts are read. I only see aggregated figures, such as views per post, referring sites and countries, not who you are. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25 TDDDG where information is stored on or read from your device.

Comments

If you leave a comment, the name, email address and (optional) website you enter are stored together with your comment, its date and time, and your IP address. Your email address is never shown publicly. Comments are checked for spam by Akismet (Automattic), which receives the comment content and the data mentioned above. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a spam-free comment section) and Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for publishing your comment.

You can ask for your comment and the associated data to be deleted at any time.

Like button

Posts show a Like button from WordPress.com (Automattic). It lets visitors with a WordPress.com account like a post without leaving a comment. The button is loaded from WordPress.com servers, which receive your IP address and browser information and may set cookies if you are logged in to WordPress.com. It is only loaded with your consent. Until then a placeholder is shown, which you can click to load the button. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG (consent).

Email subscription

If you subscribe to new posts, your email address is stored and processed by Jetpack/WordPress.com (Automattic) to send you updates. You will receive a confirmation email first (double opt-in). Every email contains a link to unsubscribe, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). Your address is only used for this site’s updates and is never sold or shared for marketing.

Cookies

The site uses cookies and similar technologies. Technically necessary ones, for example to remember your cookie choice or to keep you logged in if you have a WordPress.com account, are used on the basis of § 25(2) TDDDG and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. All other cookies are only used with your consent (§ 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can give, refuse or change at any time via the cookie settings on this site.

Embedded content and links

Posts may include embedded content from other websites. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited the other site directly, and that site may collect data about you. Links to other sites, such as itch.io, are plain links: no data is transferred until you click them, after which that site’s privacy policy applies.

How long data is kept

Comments and their data are kept as long as the comment stays published. Subscription data is kept until you unsubscribe. Technical server data and statistics are kept by Automattic according to its retention periods.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access the data stored about you (Art. 15), to have it corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17), to restrict its processing (Art. 18), to receive it in a portable format (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. Just write to the email address above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state where you live.

Changes

I update this page when the site changes, for example when a new service is added. The date at the top shows the latest version.
